Prevention Coordinator Job Description

The primary goal of the Prevention Coordinator is to reduce the number of new HIV infections or re-infections by providing accurate, up-to-date information concerning HIV/AIDS, STIs, communication and negotiation skills, safer sex practices, and harm reduction techniques in a non-judgmental and participatory manner.

Salary and Hours:  This is a non-exempt, 30 hour per week (0.75FTE) position with a compensation range of between $10 and $13 per hour.  Medical, vision and dental benefits are available for employees working 30 or more hours a week.  Conditions of employment are outlined in Missoula AIDS Council’s Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual.

Supervision:  This position reports directly to the Executive Director.

Specific Duties:

HIV Positive Speakers Bureau & HIV 101 Presentations

1. Recruit and train presenters.

2. Schedule presentations.

3. Monitor presentations.

4. Evaluate effectiveness and professionalism of presentations/presenters.

HIV Counseling and Testing

1. Perform counseling and testing as needed.

2. Maintain referral/resource list and develop techniques to share that information with clients and volunteers.

3. Maintain strong relationship with local City/County Health Department to ensure partner notification and confirmatory testing.

4. Manage the purchase and use of test kits and supplies.

5. Coordinate and implement testing schedule.

6. Supervise and train HIV testing and counseling volunteers and work with agency interns.

7. Implement client satisfaction survey.

8. Prepare bi-annual report to the Department of Public Health and Human Services on core elements of the intervention, with assistance of Executive Director.

Youth Intervention Street Smart

1. Learn and implement Street Smart curriculum

2. Make contacts with agencies that serve target population.

3. Update and modify curriculum including print materials and electronic media to the Department of Public Health and Human Services standards.

4. Create and coordinate use of pre and post program questionnaire.

5. Verify youth are gaining knowledge and skills from presentations using the above questionnaire, evaluation tools or develop improved tools to verify this.

7. Prevention Coordinator OR Executive Director OR both attends annual contractor's meeting.

8. Report to the Department of Public Health and Human Services on core elements of this intervention bi-annually.

Coordinate Support Group Intervention

1. Monitor reports from group facilitator as defined by service delivery plan. Confirm that groups are being held on schedule and goals are being met.

2. Be lead staff representative in working with subcontractor.

3. Compile and enter pre- and post questionnaire information.

4. Report to the Department of Public Health and Human Services on the core elements of this group intervention, with assistance from the Executive Director.

Other duties as assigned:  This is intended to include fund raising assistance, special event assistance, website and social networking assistance and other time limited projects that support the general operations of Missoula AIDS Council.

Experience, Qualifications, Expertise:

·          Experience in HIV prevention and community planning

·          Experience working with youth

·          Experience with volunteer coordination

·          Possess excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

·          Ability to work and communicate effectively with community partners and individuals from diverse populations

·          Effective and accurate writing, computer and record keeping skills

·          Strong initiative and self-starting skills

·          Ability to multi-task, problem solve, function independently and as part of a team

·          Manage time and activities effectively

·          Ability to occasionally travel

·          Possess a valid Driver’s License and current auto insurance

·          Be able to work some evenings and occasional weekend hours

Minimum Requirements:

·          Bachelor’s Degree in Health Promotion, Public Health, Human Sexuality or related field preferred

·          Certification or ability to become certified in HIV testing and counseling

·          One to two years of relevant health promotion experience

·          Previous HIV/AIDS experience is desirable

·          Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
